Would it matter if there WERE black chicks with white heads? This one definitely didn't have a white head - looked identical to the other....there were about 6 others.....ironically the majority having white spots on their heads

A second gen breeding would be to any other breed or to each other. there can still be barred chicks if you breed a black sex link to a black sex link, they just won't be sex links.

Of course, if the sex links were first gen crosses, you may just have an intruder of a different breed[EE in this case, they come in black, and not all have pea combs or beards.], especially since the chick does not have any red. Red might still come in later, though.

With mixed breeds (ie BSL) there is always a variation in the amount of expression you see - it may be that the darker bird just isn't going to have much/as much copper collar, given there is some bareness to it's neck, that may still feather in with some copper to it.
