What the heck?!

I have a chicken bLACKI and she is a very sweet chicken towards me but she is ugly and pulls feathers out of the other chickens. It will be really hard to get rid of her because of the look of betrayal she will give me. She is very sweet though. But eventually we are going to have to get rid of her, unless you have any other solutions. We have tried peck no more, protein diet, and 2 day isolation. I am thinking about calling one of my friends or one of my neighbors to see if we can put Blackie in a coop with a big mean rooster for about a month and then maybe she will be more timid. Do you have any suggestions?

I would put some pin less peepers on her they are far less painful to the bird than the ones with pins, I hung my roo upside down until he quit being mean people say chickens don't have feeling but I think it embarrassed him, others will tell you give her a sharp tap on the back of her head with your finger, kind of like another hen pecking her in the back of the head saying stop.

We have the opposite problem in our coop. The entire flock is ganging up on one old hen. She hides all the time, and has a big bald spot on her head. I wish there was something we could do to help.

Poor girl. She runs to us when we are out there so we can protect her. She eats so fast, worried someone will peck her and steal her food.

That is so sad to hear and that is what my worry is after the recovery of our beloved hen, Ollie, after our puppy got a hold of her earlier this week. Hope that things turn around for your older hen. Is there a way for you to build a smaller coop or separate a spot in your current coop to accommodate her?

I wish I had a suggestion for you. That is really sad to hear and I hope that the trend stops in everyone's favor.

Maybe try isolating her for a couple weeks. 2 days isn't long enough. A week or more will knock her out of the pecking order completely and she will have to start over. Borrowing a rooster couldn't hurt either. They usually don't let the ladies fight too much and might rearrange the pecking order
