I have 9 leghorns that lay faithfully for me daily - every day I get between 7 and 10 eggs and then BAM, three days ago they just stopped cold turkey...cold chicken...

What is going on? Any thoughts for this newbie?

Chickens naturally slow down or stop this time of year. They also molt, during which they stop laying. Also, if there has been a recent cold front or bad weather it can stress them and make them stop laying.

My buttercup has stopped completely. I haven't got an egg out of her in over 6 days.

The day before yesterday I got 1 egg, then yesterday I got 5. Go figure. (out of 6 chickens)

Also, if you are new to chickens, and your chickens free range at this time of year you need to increase the amount of feed ration you give them. The number of bugs available goes down so they need an increase in feed to keep their protein up.

My girls seem to have slowed WAY down too. I was getting 13-15 a day then only 8 yesterday and 10 the day before. We will see what today brings.

my SLW and BLeghorn have stopped completely now. its been about 2 weeks or more. i don/t have a light in my coop so i know that this time of year its going to happen. i just let nature take its course and when the days get longer again come Feb/March i/ll start having eggs again. seems that lots of people on here are not aware of this fact about chickens and egg laying. there/s nothing wrong with the hens and it happens every year

I was relieved to see your post. My 5 who have been laying between 4-6 eggs a day for several months have not layed an egg in several days. One of my hens has gone broody and no body is laying. They are a mess. We are hooking up a small light to increase their light in the early morning to see if that makes any difference. I hope they pick back up. It has gotten colder here at night, but it has been pretty darn nice (mid 60's during the day) so they better brace themselves for when winter REALLY gets here.

Mine have slowed WAY down, too. I have 17 hens that are laying and I went from 12-15 eggs a day to 5-6 in the last week or so.
