What time in the morning do hens usually lay?

Commercial bred laying chickens always lay early morning. I gather all my eggs at 10AM. Very seldon is there a egg after that. At this time mine are laying 95%. My lights go on at 4AM. I do beleive that most are laid by 8AM.

Did you say that you think you just have one girl laying? I have several, and I'm sure when they climb in the nests where there are eggs already their body heat keeps the previously laid eggs from freezing. If you have just one girl laying her egg will probably freeze up faster. Sorry to confuse you!!

Hi, Im not sure how many are laying. I have 3 roos and 4 hens, all the same age (6 months). I only assumed that one was laying because I was getting 1 egg every other day...but I got one yesterday and 2 today....I just went out there and found the 2nd of the day. So I'm guessing more than one is laying now. I heard that you can tell if you go near, or try to pet your hen she will squat...that means shes laying? Any truth in this? Thanks

My lil' hen has been laying for just a few months, but we have a morning routine. I greet her, then offer her seed & feed, then sheMUST have fresh water. Then she goes and lays an egg. Roo stands beside her, watching all the activities.

We often find the "early egg" when the hens are aroused around 6:30, so someone is a very early riser in our dark barn interior these winter mornings. By contrast, we got our last egg for the day just a few minutes ago, going on 5 pm. We found thirteen altogether today, so the other eleven were distributed throughout the day. So...when do they lay? All day long in our flock. Keeps us trotting to checkthe nest boxes and secret places these freezing winter days. So far, we've only found two cracked frozen eggs, pretty lucky. ~G

My very first egg I found on the 26th I decided to put in the bator...I got it when it was still warm. The one I got an hour or so ago was a bit chilly. How long would I have to let this one sit before putting it in the bator? I know, I know.....its off the subject but.....
