What to do? OH what to do! About my sons pit..

he looks like a nice dog.

but critters are hard to just give away usually, so it might take a bit of time to find a good owner

you will, keep at it and he will find that home and you will be off the hook then.

good luck!!

His eyes have that old soul look. I love his name too. I am sure you will find someone who will love him, it will just take time. Bless you for doing this for Superman.

What a doll, all he wants is a nice warm couch and some loving! I've got a blue pit that's identical to Superman, and he's just the sweetest thing. I hate to say this, but my sister did this with her dog, (long involved story, trust me, the dog was better off) and took it to the local shelter and told them she "found" the dog and couldn't keep it. They did take the dog with no questions asked. This could be an option, especially if you went to a shelter outside of your city/town. I really hope you either bring him in or find him a home quick!! Good luck sweetie!!

Maybe you can post on petfinder classifieds and see if you can find a home for him. Or possibly call the animal shelters or humane society that will help find him a home but consider you a foster home until they can find someone who is interested. You also might try posting pics and your phone number at vet's offices and pet supply/feed stores. People taking their pets to the vet or buying pet food would probably be likely candidates. Also if he's been neutered he's more likely to find a home and you won't have to worry about someone trying to get him to breed and ignoring him.

Not sure what all has been posted as far as advice and information. But, I'd like to help.

First question (AND THIS QUESTION IS HUGE!), is he neutered?
-Never, never, never adopt out a pit bull that isn't spayed/neutered. There's just too high of a chance of it contributing to a litter or ten! And the overpopulation of pits is overageous.
-If not already neutered, then do it BEFORE you adopt them out. Don't depend on the adopter to do it. Plus, it will decrease the chance of someone irresponsible (with less than stellar plans for the dog) wanting to adopt.
-If you can't afford it, there are MANY programs to assist you with the cost. Here's some to get you started:

Second, is he housetrained, cratetrained, and leash-trained?
-These are basic and necessary things every dog needs to know. Teach him these simple things and you will greatlt increase his chance of finding a FOREVER home. The goal is to get him into a home where he will be for the rest of his life, not just house-hopping.

Third, how socialized is he with children, cats, other dogs? eldery people? people in wheelchairs? Men with hats? beards?
-The more you know about what he can handle and how he will react to different situations, the more likely you can match him with a compatible home.

For more tips on how to place him and how to identify a good future home, visit here and read: http://www.pbrc.net/adoption/owners.html

The
average amount of time it takes a pit bull to find a good home is 6 MONTHS. Now, that's an average so sometimes it can take many years and sometimes its only a few days. If you're not ready to wait whatever amount of time it takes, then you need to hand him over to a rescue or put him to sleep. Now some rescues may be able to eventually take him, but seeing as pit bulls are WAY overpopulated, it's unlikely to happen soon. You're best bet, is to ask them to crosspost his info on their site and have potential adopters contact you. You may be able to get them to take him into rescue, IF you agree to be his foster home. That way they find his home and you just care for him until they do. I'd recommend that route if at all possible. Here's some rescues you can contact:
http://www.mprgroup.net/
http://www.mabbr.org/
http://www.muttsandstuff.com/
http://www.bhmsr.net/
Ask
these rescues for others nearby that might can help.

Also, I'd recommend joining the Pit Bull Forum (I'm on there under INOCNTKITN187). They can help you with training, housing, behavior questions, and possibly some other rescues in the area. The link to the site is http://www.pitbullforum.com Be advised that you may NOT post owner surrenders on the site for adoption. But, you can ask questions for help as much as you like.

Best of luck with Superman! PLEASE keep me updated on him.

Update on the pit. I still have him, I got a couple of bites but no one serious. I have a question though. I got him a dog igloo, so can he stay out when it's below freezing or should I bring him in? I did manage to get a large kennel if he needs to come in at night. Any recomendations?

If you can't bring him inside put some straw in his doghouse to help him keep warm. He can't keep warm enough below freezing with just an igloo.
