We had a hen go broody for the first time. She sat for 3 weeks and hatched 2 chicks Two days ago. She then took the chicks to another part of the coop and left the other eggs Unattended. The eggs had cooled down but we took them and put the remaining eggs into an incubator we bought a few days earlier. One of the eggs just hatched. We will leave the chick in the incubator until it dries, but then what? When should we try to introduce it back to the mom and two other chicks?

Most hens won't take a chick that didn't hatch under them. This just happened to me as well. Thankfully I had another broody hen to stick the egg under. The original hen just attacked the chick. It can depend on the hen. I personally would be extremely cautious.

My hen attacked her own chick when I returned one that had fallen from the nest, and others have told me they haven't had much luck with surrogate hens either.
