i made sure to pick out all pullet chicks, but still ended up with a rooster. I already have a rooster, and my family HATES him (can’t blame them, he’s nasty) so keeping it isn’t an option. I don’t want to cull, but it looks like I’ll have to My mom told me to leave him outside at night for something to get him, but that seems cruel, and I’d rather do it myself quickly than leave him to be preyed on. How would I go about quickly culling him, or getting rid of him otherwise?

I'm in a similar situation. I have a Black Copper Marans rooster who's just getting more and more aggressive all the time. Meanwhile, we're in the virulent Newcastle Disease quarantine zone with, I'm thrilled to say, healthy chickens. So my only prospect for getting chicks I can feel confident about rests with Monsieur Maurice.

So my plan is to see if one of my hens will go broody and hatch some chicks. As soon as it's clear that I've got a cockerel, M. Maurice's time will be up. Sad, but even my 6'3" husband is intimidated by him so there you are. I will hope the next cockerel has better manners. But, if not, I'll rinse-and-repeat until I get a roo we all -- including my 8yo grandson -- feel safe and comfortable around.

What I'm saying is that, really, you might consider this an opportunity.

Leaving it out to be taken is poor husbandry, to say the least.... so that's a hard no for me.
If you can't cull yourself, lost the burst locally for someone else who us more comfortable doing it. People who process for their own use, raw feeding pets, wildlife rehab, etc all are folks who might want the bird

why not replace the aggressive one with the new one? or if not cull both and be done with roos
I am curious about why you are keeping the nasty rooster at all.

If I cull Henry, I’m not allowed to have another roo. The reason I won’t cull Henry because I asserted myself wayyy before his hormones made him an angry boy, while my family called me “cruel.” Now he’s “cruel”, and I have to go out and protect my family when he’s around. I’ll cull him in time, but not today.

then your better off culling both and not get another roo
