If I want to use sand for my coop... what do I need to use in the sand? So far here is my list of a mixture!

1)Sand
2)DE
3)
4)

Any more?

Does sand in the coop also work for small coops that are off the ground?

I am thinking of getting sand too. My coop/run is attracting lots of flies. The woman at the feedstore said I should be careful with sand. The chickens may ingest to much of it. What are the thoughts of the experienced chicken farmers? This woman said I should get straw. I think sand would be easier to clean...I did buy DE.

If you're going to use sand in the coop, then you also need something to scoop the poop out every day, right? As well as something to put it in, to haul it away and a place to compost it.
