Yeah, I took a big chance, but I am quite relieved it seems to be working out pretty well. Not a single bantam has been injured by the bigs, chased occasionally yes, harassed a bit, but never injured. The more time that passes the less they fuss with each other. I think we are reaching a balance point, where I’ll have two distinct sub groups that can coexist safely and peacefully. I can live with that out come.

Thank you, Thyme really is a handsome fella and maybe better yet a gentleman too.
Sounds like a plan... as long as the bigs don't outnumber the littles flock group. Will you be getting hatching eggs or sexed pullets? I'm so glad to know the SFH's turned out to live up to their good reputation.

When I was in Kindergarten I had to go to speech therapy. My speech wasn’t THAT bad, but apparently I always said turch and some people didn’t like that.
76 yrs ago I got sent home from kindergarten on the 1st day for a whole year cuz I spoke half my sentences in Russian & half in English ~ there were no ESL remedial classes in that era. My parents were told to speak English only to me at home. Not only did they speak English but I was taught to read & write it too. While Pop was at it he also taught me to read Russian & write in cyrillic too so I could distinguish between the two languages. Big mistake ~ when I got to first grade the following year I was correcting all the students who couldn't read the Dick & Jane primers!

The iconic 'Dick and Jane' books started a revolution in education

Rat update: Moved the chickens into their run for there safety during high winds. Which is quite far from where they have their food and water usually, where the rat hole was. (At least for rats) I have seen no more activity. Went to let the chickens out to free range again and a rat was in one of the traps! I think baited with either liqueurish or peanut butter!

Ok good night all.

Oooo my trap has caught something! Yay! It’s flashing. Maybe I’ll get dressed and reset the trap for this one…

Edit: nope I guess it’s flashing for needing new batteries. Drats!
Ugghhh! I think the trick is put the trap in the rats ‘path’ take all the food and water away so that the rats hungry for the bait. Maybe put a crate or something on the top to make it feel more secure?

Well I don’t yet have any roo experience. All I have is an overly energetic cockerel whose fate I am still weighing.
He will take blueberries from my hand - but I am convinced he would snatch a blueberry from a fox if such an opportunity arose. He is very fast when it comes to blueberries.
He appears from nowhere and almost immediately disappears again, and somehow where once was a blueberry there is no longer a blueberry!
Tax: the blueberry thief
