Hi, I'm new, and I looked but did not see this question addressed--sorry if I missed it.

Naturally, even if you order/buy pullets, you may still end up with cockerels. What do folks generally do with the boys? Keep them? Find good homes? Any special treatment for them? Thanks!

I recieved 7 RIR cockerels in my shipment from Ideal. When they were 15 weeks old I took them to be processed. They are in my freezer now.

I didn't receive any packing peanuts, but I did end up with three male chicks that were suppose to be females. I advertised them by hanging posters at the library and post office. All three boys went to a home where the people had 80 hens, but no roosters.
By the way when ordering from Ideal if you don't want packing peanuts, you simply need to tell them at the time of your order and pay a small shipping insurance charge.

I send them out to our family farms or advertise them on craigslist.
If not any of those, they would go into the freezer.

Thats a great idea putting up posters
We have 8 cochins Roos , Free to a good
home.
they havent found their voices yet opps, one has,
I just heard him. LoL

Thanks for the ideas. We also have Free Cycle, so that may be a good idea, too.
