What to do with trapped squirrels

So I gave up trying to do what the Humane Society suggested and negotiating with the squirrels to stop shoving their faces with chicken feed.

I set up a live trap and not five minutes later have one guy. Previously I have put the squirrels in "time out" in the trap all day (with water) in the run with occasional visits from my dogs. I'm hoping this scares them enough to keep them from returning, but am afraid it will just teach them to avoid the trap. Any ideas of a better solution? Squirrel proof feeders? Electric fence isn't a option because of neighbors and kiddo's.

If I trap an animal...the critter is properly disposed of and the trap re-set.

But for squirrels, I guess I have a soft spot....from years of hunting them.

Every squirrel that I catch in the spring and summer months, I take to my dad's house and turn them loose....he likes squirrels. I'll be catching heck for that here shortly...

HECK! So there! I've got some ground squirrels (chipmunks?) enjoying the chicken feed at times, and I guess the cuteness factor overrides worrying about them. If I'm eliminating rats with poison, no doubt some chippies also don't make it, though. Not often. My barn cat does like chippies too, and that helps. Mary

I have caught one squirrel. I relocated it a couple miles away. What brand of trap did you use? The one I caught was by luck of it being locked in the coop.

Relocating wildlife is problematic for humans and the animals and, in most localities, illegal. Often moving them is a crueler punishment than providing a quick, painless death

Yes I am sure that chickens can taste hot pepper and they dearly love the taste of it as well. To prove this to yourself plant or buy a Tabasco pepper or other rocket hot small chili (like a Thailand bird pepper) Once its fruits begin to ripen (turn red don't you know) you will not be able to keep your birds away from it.

My late mother-in-law was a contract bridge player. I use to do a little recreational squirrel hunting. With my mother-in-law's week to host the girls over for a bridge party looming the old gal was at a loss about what snacks to feed her friends. Fortunately i had about a dozen gray squirrels in the deep freezer.

She boiled them up, de-boned the meat, and first ground it up then buzzed it up in a food processor with mayo, spices, and maybe mustard. Next she spread a generous amount on Ritz and Club crackers and of course varied it with ripe & green olives, pearl onions, cheese and cute little pickles. All seven of her bridge guests went ape over it and pestered her for months for her potted meat recipe. So when mother nature hands you squirrel, make pate.

Put a bullet in its head, skin it and eat it. Quarter it up and serve with gravy over rice. YUMMY.

Next ones I get, im going to pressure cook, with spices. Then put in broiler for 2 minutes or so to firm up the top of the meat. Gonna be soooo good!

Hi all, Newbie here... What do you guys put in your squirrel traps? I've put lots of delicious fruits and veggies and have gotten NO business. I have about 20 ground squirrels that need to be re-homed.
