What treat did your chickies get today?

Here in NH we aren't as lucky as you Southerners! When I read that chickenguru 'plowed under their mustard greens to plant their spring garden' I sighed and looked out my window. It's sunny but 30mph frigid winds, my compost piles are out there somewhere and my 4 foot tall garden fence is buried under snow.

My girls got 5 blocks of chopped frozen spinach today. Of course I thawed it.

If chickenguru gets a Fed Ex box with 14 chicken in it they won't stay long. Just long enough to thaw out and eat some of those yummy greens.

Heck with the chickens...I'm packing my bags now!

Mine got the usual helping of BOSS and scratch, but also some grits, mac n cheese, and some hamburger crumbles. All the things growing girls need!

Mine got leeks and apples (seeds removed) before I went to work today. I'm curious to see if they even touched the leeks - probably not soft enough for them.

This morning mine got some left over boiled potatoes and some scratch.

Oh, mine had a special treat today. We had quail for dinner last night and they got the carcasses to pick over. Were they ever excited when they got at that bowl!

left over lettuce, strawberries, a few small rolls that were heading south..Ran outta BOSS

Our hens are vegetarian..so far. I read how you guys give them hamb, quail, and other meat...Guess I can't get past giving chickens meat. It's a hang up I guess....

I might change in the future, but for now....no meat.

mine got the lettuce that was left on the counter last night and it wilted. also leftover canned tomatoes. and some scratch grains as well. and the butts of a loaf of bread.
