What treat did your chickies get today?

Shredded lettuce and later A cup of warm oatmeal mixed with some leftover rice--It was a wet, wet day here!

Today they gobbled up a bag of shredded lettuce and a bag of spinach. Tomorrow I may warm something up as the weather is going from bad to worse. Don't mind snow but HATE the icy rain!

It's actually pretty chilly in Arizona this week, so I've been fixing them oatmeal and then throwing in any leftover veggies from the night before. So today was oatmeal with broccoli and meal worms. Yum!!

Here's an off-the-wall question: how do you know if your chickens are getting enough to eat? It seems like each time I give them a treat, they are starving to death!

They get Layena and then free-range all day plus treats.

They just want the treats..... We are the same...when we pass Cinn-a-bon, or Krispie Kream and In and Out burgers, we get all excited. We're all just a bunch oversized two legged chickens...

I have a favorite hen, Paprika, and today we turned over all of the bricks along my garden while she gorged on worms. She talks to me the whole time, too.

Everybody will go crazy for treats even if they are full. They are always more exited if they are in the coop. If they are free ranging and I toss a grape, everybody will pretty much ignore it or pick it up and drop it like it tastes bad. In the coop, that's a whole different story... I've seen chickens literally jumping over each other to get to the door for grapes.
