What treat did your chickies get today?

How pretty, the coloured eggs and how sad your poor chook died. How can you tell they are eggg bound?

Mine seemed really desperate to lay an egg and was in the coop jumping up in the corner over and over again. She just seemed like she desperately needed to lay an egg... like it was really urgent. Very unlike her first egg that she just sat in the nestbox and laid normally and peacefully. Really desperate and confused... not normal. It was my first time dealing with an eggbound pullet. I learned a lot from that experience.

Today for breakfast the ladies got a bowl of oatmeal and a banana.

The other time I tryed oatmeal it wasn't a hit but the was plain this is a little sweeter plus they love bananas.

Can anything be done?
Yes, but it doesn't always work. If you search "egg bound" on here there should be a few posts that talk about it and how to try and help egg bound chickens pass the egg.

I tried to treat her, but I think I may have been too late. When I went to check up on her she was lethargic and laying in the middle of the coop so I brought her in the house and did a bit of research on BYC and started to treat her but she passed away in my arms. She was my favorite little girl too!

Let them into part of the garden that is no longer producing, hoping they will eat down and get it ready for a cover crop. They must have found some good stuff because they looked like they were smuggling tennis balls under their neck feathers when they were heading up to roost.

Leftover rice that I added several eggs to and fried up, like fried rice. I then added two overly rip tomatoes, a handful of sunflower seeds, and some canned corn.

One is having a very hard molt so I'm trying to get extra egg and protein into her. They were happy girls!
