What treat did your chickies get today?

Ah yes chickmomma03 mine are the same .. corn on the cob is a chicken trap but corn not on the cob is yummy!

I love how people mention they hang a head of cabbage for the girls to peck at .. my gals reaction to that was similar to what you would expect if I had let a predator loose in the run

Grapes are the equivalent of tiny hand grenades!

If it is not cut up they will not eat it. Maybe I should try cutting up the peas!

Having said that, you still know what you can do with your pumpkin, carrots etc chopped or otherwise

Today my birds got what I like to call a starch blob, two 5 gallon buckets full :)

While I'm getting my expired produce from the store sometimes I'll get some day old expired boxes of crackers, tortilla chips, cereals and grains like rice or what not... Since this stuff will sit on the shelf and not really get any worse, I let it pile up until I get an excess, then I bust out the big turkey roasting crock pot thing fill it half way with water and start dumping in a mix of the starchy items until I have thick oatmeal consistency, let it cook for a bit to kick in the starches and then pour it in a 5 gallon bucket... Once it cools it's like a big gelatin like blob of starchy goodness...

The birds love it, especially if I shred and cook up some veggies or ground meat into it...

As well as the rice and kidney beans, i also said i fed them some stewed mutton. Mutton is the meat of sheep.

I'm British also so I know what mutton is. Lamb in the US tastes nothing like it did in the UK unless you buy Australian lamb. Rarely do as it is prohibitively expensive.

Mine won't eat watermelon. Has anyone EVER known a chicken that doesn't eat watermelon. You can tell they are related to me. I hate watermelon.

Quote: Lol, when they were still really small, I literally shredded the carrots because they wouldn't eat them otherwise. Peas, thankfully they don't feel threatened by those anymore, they were NOT fun to puree lol! Cabbage, forget it, if I didn't cut it up into little pieces they won't touch it. I tried to hang it and yea, they thought it was a danger to them lmfao, forget it!

Quote: Mine love watermelon thankfully! It gets HOT here in the summer so it's a great thing for them to get extra hydration from. The first time I gave it to them though, omgosh, it was hilarious, they were all trying to get away from it.
