What treat did your chickies get today?

Tee hee BBQJOE, yep they are like lemmings .. mine were like that initially with watermelon; “It’s a trap!” .. one girl was brave enough to approach and peck and now they all love it! Sardines, however, were a hit from the get go .. probably because they were offered by hand and not plonked in the run.

Hey Spatan22 I have not personally tried my gals on Vegemite but I have heard of others diluting it in water as a pick-up. It is made from brewer’s yeast and is packed with B vitamins along with niacin, riboflavin, folate, calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron and selenium. It is, however, salty.

I am tempted to try it next time I have a chicken who is a bit ‘under the weather’ but I do not think a lot would be needed … same as no-one in their right mind would spread it thick on toast

Yesterday I gave my girls oatmeal for the first time. I mixed in a little ground kelp, some probiotic powder, dried oregano, and some raisins. They were leery at first, but it was gone five minutes later. Today they will get some leftover turkey, rice, and brussel sprouts.

I love my chickens!!

Hi again. I have some Marmite that I can't eat (have Celiac). It's expensive and I wasn't sure what to do with what I have. Anyway, I cooked some immature winter squash and put the Marmite in it. The loved it. Found the cat sipping the juices too. Must remember to offer it to everyone and use it up. It is supposed to be full of vitamins.

My chickens got apples and celery today. They weren't sure about the celery, broccoli, or carrot shavings that I threw in compost pile. But they love the apples! I have to make sure there are at least three (I have 3 hens and a brat rooster) or they will fight.
