What treat did your chickies get today?

Is it okay(safe) to use wild bird suet blocks as a chicken treat?

Good "q", I read before that it's ok to feed it to chicken but has no benefits, since it's mostly fat. It might help keep them warm in the winter, but not beneficial. I think I will stay with pecan or sunflower seeds blocks, will give them better nutrition for good feathering.

Some of the veteran flock raisers here might have better ideas on this.

No sure if suet would be the same but I heard someone say, I think right in this thread even, that their birds LOVE wild bird food (seed form, not suet) but they don't give it to them often because I think they said it decreases their egg production. Not sure if this is true for suet or even if it may just be a fluke with their birds but just something to potentially be aware of.

I'm like the others I have wondered as well.
Fresh Eggs Daily has a "suet" recipe here: http://www.fresheggsdaily.com/2013/01/homemade-suet-warming-chicken-treat.html

I've also looked at those flock block things at the feed store. They seem to weigh a ton to me and personally I wouldn't leave it in the run 100% of the time, so I would have to lug it in and out of the house possibly or put it in a gamma sealed bucket and drag it back out, so that wouldn't work for me, plus they cost $$. Found a couple of Flock Block knock offs by the Chicken Chic and Fresh Eggs Daily that I might would consider doing (or at least something similar).
