What treat did your chickies get today?

Pics
Raw purple cabbage and eggplant chopped up in my food processor. Kind of eggplant/cabbage slaw!<P>
Also several fistfuls of clover I grow just for them, I just yank off the leaves and leave the main part of the plant to replenish itself.

Did you have to do anything with it first? Like clean it? Or take off the scales?

All I did was split it open so they could get at it easier. They picked around the bones and left part of the head and scales behind but everything else was devoured!

cool-thanks! DH and DS sometimes go fishing in a pond across from our house and they throw everything back. I might have them keep one for the chickens next time.

I just threw out a chopped up apple and they were less than impressed. I suppose because it isn't soft enough to just eat and they have to work at it. I also threw out a few halved grapes that were too soft for me (I like them firm) and those didn't last long at all. Plus I threw out some wheat.

I sure hope they don't choke on the apple bits.

Blueberries. Fresh picked. Also, almost every day, raisins. That is a guaranteed chicken stampede.

slugs and salmon(my son in law works at a restaurant and he saves the salmon bellies for the chickens!!)They like the slugs just as much.
Yum!!

I moved out two bales of straw to replace them with new ones, and there were a bunch of cutworms (grubworms?) under the straw bales. After the head chook had pronounced them edible, the girls tore into them and gulped them down. It was really something to watch. I won't be needing to give them any additional protein tonight ;-)
