What tree to plant in Charlie's Garden?

Weeping Willow. For Charlie, for you. They are beautiful.

I love Weeping Willows, and could see why you recommend one. But they are water needy, and aggressively invade any nearby water system. With a septic system there, I'm not sure that would be a good idea.

I like the dogwood. For other plants, on George's grave I put bleeding hearts and forget-me-nots.

Yeah I think a pink dogwood would be perfect for Charlie; though her favorite tree to sit under was the pecan.

I've been meaning to go to the family cemetary and get a clipping off the humongous gardenia bush that DH's grandma planted up there. Maybe I'll do that this spring and plant it on the other side of Charlie's garden spot, opposite the forsythia.

How appropriate and lovely.

I think a dogwood would be nice - not real showy or over the top but a quietly understated tree. My mom had one in her front yard and when my son was smaller, he loved to climg the "dogtree". When I lost my mom to ovarian cancer 5 years ago, I went out and bought a pink dogwood tree and planted it in a corner of my yard with a little concrete plaque under it that says, "If tears could build a stairway, and memories a lane, I would walk right up to heaven and bring you home again."

I bought a little garden statue with butterflies that light up (from solar power) with that saying on it when DH lost his brother. Last time I was up at the cemetary it was still shining.

How beautiful...where did you get the statue from? I would love to have one.

I can't remember honestly. I think it was from one of those ABC catalogs that you often see around workplaces.
Don't know if they still have them:

In browsing their website real quick, I saw this:

I may just have to get one.

We just passed the 16th anniversary of my mom's death. I don't know where the years have gone, but the passage of them hasn't eased the pain.
It's hard for me to believe that it's been 7 months that Charlie's been gone. Seems like she was just here yesterday. Jax sometimes "alerts" to something or someone in the house that we just can't see. DH insists that it's Charlie, just making sure we are doing good with our new pup.
