What type of chicken is best for beginners

I'm most likely going to go with ameraucanas

Thats Awesome! I think you will like them. I have only heard a few people complain about them. Just a heads up don't buy them at the feed store they label them "americanas" and they are really easter eggers. And I think only two hatchery have true ameraucanas and they are expensive and wont be of the very good quality because they are hatchery stock. So you will need to buy from a breeder, unless you want to spend a lot from a hatchery meyer hatchery charges $20 for blue ameraucana female chick. And they are 8 varieties of ameraucanas (blue,white,black,buff,brown red, wheaten, blue wheaten, and silver). Usually the easiest varieties to find are blue and black. Ameraucans also come in some color projects. But instead of me rambiling on forever you can go to www.ameraucana.org and find out tons of information about them and can look at pictures too.

Your welcome! if you get them you will have to update this or something to let me know how it goes if you do get them!You can also go to the ameraucana thread on BYC and learn a ton of information about them and peeople post pictures on ther a lot too. I actually have a batch of BBS ameraucana eggs hatching this saturday..soooo excited!(since we were talking about ameraucanas i thought I would get some of my excitment out lol)

It looks like a mottled houdan could you post the picture so it is easier to see. It isnt a silkie. Silkies have fuzzy feet and are fluffy all over I dont have a pic of one but you could google it and I am sure that some correct pics would come up.
