So the vet came today and Sopheap is on antibiotics for a few weeks. And....the vet said he is a boy! I'll be honest, he didn't seem very confident in that assessment as he said he's only sexed day olds before. I think Sopheap may be intersex, personally. Either way, I love him.

Well, I'm happy to hear that he's a he. Did the Vet. say anything about the white one? Was your gander put on the antibiotics because he already has an infection, or are they giving him the antibiotics prophylactically? Does he still have a limp? I can just picture a goose waddling down a dirt road, somewhere in Cambodia, wearing a sock on his foot that he recently borrowed from a toddler because a few days ago he somehow managed to step on a syringe !!! I don't know whether I should be laughing

or crying!

It's just too surreal. I mean, some of the stories I've read here...let me tell you...some of them, well...you can't make this stuff up !!!

I don't know what the penis of a 3-month-old goose is supposed to look like, but what I saw didn't look anything like that. So I'm still holding out hope for eggs next year.

The antibiotics are for the infection in the foot. The scab has healed over and there is no break in the skin, but the needle was quite long and there's a little infection inside that is causing his limp. And yes, lots here is very surreal. Sometimes I don't even notice it because I'm so used to it!

Here´s a pic of a gander´s penis. Can you see it´s a bit like a corkscrew? Did the vet show you what he was doing there? What he was looking for?

It didn't look anything like that. It look more like a needle that was only a quarter inch (3 cm) long. After seeing what my drake is packing, I did not think this was what a gander would have! The vet seemed a bit confused but he doesn't work with geese often and said he had only sexed day old ones before. He wasn't really able to find a proper penis, I think, but since he didn't see a hole he said that it must be a boy.

A tiny thing a quarter of an inch long (3mm?) would be for a tiny gosling. at three months they´re a good size, so that doesn´t make sense... did it look anything like this? The vet isn´t going to find a hole, as such....just folds. Your goose´s face looks female to me, and it doesn´t behave like the other one, so I´m sticking with female. so, it´s a wait and see game.....

So yesterday Sopheap was in the pool with our smallest female duck, Pancake, the duck that spurns all attentions from our overzealous drake. Sopheap's head got very fluffy and then Pancake presented herself to him (I don't know else to put it, she was straight up asking for it) and Sopheap nearly got on top of her but then didn't. Then today the two of them were in the pool again and they were sort of play-fighting, but I am not sure if they were playing, flirting or fighting. I actually thought Pancake was going to mount Sopheap, because she tried to get on top of him. I think maybe they were establishing pecking order, and if they were, I think Pancake won. Anyway, it's not in the least bit clear to me what is going on. Can't wait to see how this drama turns out.

Can´t tell by that behaviour. Females mount females, males mount males, geese mount ducks.... all a sorting out thing. The presenting thing, like going really flat is definitely a female thing, the males don´t do that really, even though another will mount, it´s usually more of a competition and one wins. Most of the time, both the males will try to mount the other, but one will succeed. With females, it´s a calmer affair. Also, males will shout and hoot afterwards, the females don´t.
