What would dig up long-dead chicken?

You really need to dig a deep hole to bury an animal in.

There are too many digging carrion eaters with a well developed sense of smell.

You can help contain the body by placing large rocks over the grave as it is hard to dig through roocks.

Yup, you gotta bury them deep and toss a couple of good size rocks on top. Or bag 'em and send them to the landfill.

Had that happen to me, too. Something came over or under the livestock fencing, found our chicken graveyard and dug up a 3 month long dead hen.

All we found was her foot and the empty hole. Fox, coyote, or dog most likely.

Any predator will scavenge. Dogs, cats, coons, possums, skunks, fox, coyote. Look around for paw prints and make sure to bury the chicken really deep.
