I just got some Ayam cemani chicks, but what characteristics are most important? They are a couple of months old now, so I need to get rid of extra roosters. I have no idea which ones to keep! I know color is very important. I will not be breeding any roosters or hens with white wingtips, white toenails or any leakage whatsoever. Other than that and an upright body type, I am not sure what to look for. Opinions are welcome! What do you look for in ayam cemani?

Don't worry, I have had chickens for most of my life, so I know how to take care of them. I also only want to keep a few, so I will not be flooding the market. The closest breeder I know of lives a two hour drive from me.

I agree! Many people say they aren't the greatest layers, but people who have chickens want eggs.
Yes, the closest breed that I have had to a Red Jungle Fowl were OEG type of birds, lay very few eggs and then went broody, hardly any meat on them, I wonder how on earth did the humans living back when the RJF was domesticated ever thought about keeping them, seriously 12 eggs top before going broody, 50 eggs per year. I wonder who was the Genius that said, hey lets keep breeding them for the centuries and we will end up with a 300+ eggs per year breed(Leghorns)
