What do you do, Chris? Copy it from one inflaming thread to another.

Nope... I type it out each time. I've tried to quit contributing my opinion to threads like these because everyone has their own, and no matter what, NONE or our opinions will ever be in unison.

Instead I just like to point out the fact that controversial subjects such as religion, politics, government policy, and the like will always get a thread closed/locked at some point in time....

Sure I'm not on the "Public Treasures" list, and I'm not the BYC director, nor a moderator or administrator, but I am a contributing member of BYC, and I just still cannot understand why people feel the need to bring up such controversial subjects for public discussion.

I post in political topics extremely rarely, and I make an effort to post things that aren't controversial. Most of the time, I just lurk and try to decide when they'll get locked.

Maybe after election day, things will settle down around here...

This comment was in before the topic got locked.

Reasons why it's of value to discuss this issue (name calling insults not needed)

1) We have to deal with this issue as lower income aren't going to go away. If we can't find answers how to, how can we expect Government to do it?

2) Different areas have their own financial levels--ie it's cheaper to live in N.E. Indiana than N.E. Illinois. So $40K here is much better than $40K there.

3) Medical expenses make paupers out of us all. My wife wouldn't live on 20K/year. Her one procedure is $24K/yr w/out meds figured in. So tell me how you live on less than $24K, only if you are young and healthy or very old on gov. insurance.

Raise tariffs so it costs more to outsource than to keep the jobs here. Stop illegal immigration which will lower medical costs and open up lower education jobs again. Use incentive programs to ween(sp) people off of welfare.
Straight 15% flat federal tax across the board to help us get out of the financial mess that we're in and to lower the tax burden on the middle income.
They say that Americans won't work the lower jobs anymore. But with the choice of going hungry or doing the menial jobs,my choice would be to work. I remember cutting down broad leafs out of bean fields so I could buy groceries for my kids. Yes, I did telemarketing and alot of the lower end jobs because it helped pay the bills. I'm also rather fond of eating!LOL
Burlington,IA used to make you do community service to pay for your welfare(unemployed parent) not single mothers,go figure. It was a pilot program. Wyoming doesn't offer cash, just food stamps and health.

I needed some tech advice on my p/c and called the LOCAL number for the service the phone co listed. would you believe I got some foreigner I could hardly understand, and think what a time he had with my thick southern accent. We both finally agreed to give up so I still have no sound on my P/C and I guess he is still wondering what I Was trying to say. We need to bring jobs that are now outsourced overseas back and train someone to do the job. I worked for minimum wage as a cashier at winn dixie for years and it used to really burn me up to see someone come in on food stamps and buy steak, and crab legs and I had to work 40 hr and still have to stretch to feed us.MyDHhad a heart attack at 47 and I tried to get some help since we had an 8 year old,. could not get any, so I worked 3rd shift 7 days a week until he got able to work. Its hard but it can be done if you want to. marrie

I would rather help, or have my tax dollars help, 9 "undeserving" people as long as the 10th got assistance that they really really needed. Also, I cant think about this topic without my heart going out to all of the children who are suffering and need help, and to help them, you have to help their families and their communities.

I think that if you need help thats fine if you don't then thats not fine. When my DD was 6 months old her dad left us. I had to try and support her and myself. I made big cuts. Not internet, cell phone, cable, going out to eat and ect! I had to get help. She needed formula and I could not afford to buy her special formula (she had sever acid reflux) anyways.......I got help and got up on my feet again.

I was grateful for the help I got. I then got married a year later. I called the WIC office and told them thank you very much for the help but I did not need it anymore. They were floored. They had never had someone call and "cancel" WIC before. I told them I needed help before and now I am doing good. I still do not live the glamorous life style. I live in an old farm house. Drive an older jeep. DH drives a really old car. We do not have cable or satellite. We do not go out to eat. I can a lot. And I make a lot of things like laundry soap, candles, and butcher our own birds for meat. We hunt and fish. I think if you can help yourself you should. Every little bit helps. We do have internet (obviously

) because my DD is now home schooled and needs to have internet access to do her work. My husband works hard for what we have and no I do not think I am entitled to more just cause we are not rich. I was thankful for the help I got......not money but insurance and coupons when my DD was a newborn. We never got money. I am proud to say what we have we have worked for. It may not be the best.......but it is ours!
