I was so excited to win these on ebay. I know first mistake but they had good feedback and noone had bid on them yet. They were B/B/S marans eggs and some of the feed back raved about the color so I thought I was safe, problem was the color raving was for other color marans and not the B/B/S. SO I now have 10 of these eggs. Here are my options, Just put them with my mixed flock, put them with the Blue tukens Im hatching, put them with a Splash orp, Or go ahead and put them with my Blond Blue roo from bevs marans and hatch out what I can get and hope that increases the color. I am also geting some Cuckoo marans from a member here who I have heard has really good eggs. Im going to put the hens from those eggs with my roo from Bev and in hopes of creating more of my Blue/blond roo.

The 2 eggs on the left are Turken eggs for comparison, the rest are "marans"

Oh darn... I dont know alot but those look light... some of them might meet the minimum requirement and it's always fun to breed UP- I would leave info on feedback stating the eggs are subpar though...

Well, I know I have heard that many of the colors that are still in development are having a hard time getting a nice dark egg. But I wouldn't introduce them into any lines where you already have a darker egg. But you could try them with any of your roos and simply keep track of the offspring so that they do not accidently get mixed back in with your serious breeding programs.

You know everyone says the sun isn't good and you shouldn't tan. Those are Marans that are avoiding sunlight!!

Yes, it's true that Marans eggs do lighten up through the laying cycle; but these are not even dark enough to be considered Marans, I'm sorry to say. If they don't lay at least a "4" on the color scale, they are not to be considered Marans.

That being said, it IS true that many colors are being worked on; if you did want to try to get better egg color, I would keep the pullets from this hatch, and spend the money for a good roo that hatched from a very dark egg (of the same Marans color). Then, hatch ONLY the darkest eggs, and eventually, you'll get nicer color from that pen. I would truly be disappointed in these eggs if I were you, sorry to say.

(silverfilly, I tried to PM you, your box is full!!)
