What would you do

Haha thank you. They will hopefully be sorry :pop:)
Stick with it and don't back down. It took almost three months to get settled, but Meyers finally refunded all of my money, including shipping, for a poorly shipped batch of chicks. I lost five of the six, and Herman cost me a small fortune in meds and lost work days - and he's a lousy specimen of a Silkie, to boot. He's a my daughter's pride and joy (she calls him her therapy chicken,) so he was worth it in the long run ... but I doubt I'll ever use Meyer's again!

Years ago I had the same issue I ordered 25 chicks but they said they couldn't fulfill my order and instead of charging me they wanted to send me 8 chicks of the breed I originally ordered and some free chicks, probably all males. I did sent them a note and told them I wanted what I ordered and that I did not intend to order from them again if they can't fulfill my original order. They sent me 18 chicks and a refund for the rest.
They did refund me. I just think that if I were the owner/manager of that business I would not charge extra for a substitution specially when ordered so far in advance. Bad business. I will keep everyone posted of the outcome. Thank you

I'm not sure if they have the specific breed you were wanting, but I just recieved chicks from Ideal Poultry on Thursday. one had splay leg and despite my best efforts did pass away, but they refunded me no questions asked, and the rest are doing great plus their shipping is quite cheap compared to other hatcheries.

I wanted to add, initially when I made contact with them they said they would send half of the chicks in one shipment and the other half in another shipment but I would have to pay separate shipping for both shipments, REALLY...

Oh no! I hope my chicks come in okay. That would be awful. If you don’t mind me asking what was wrong with your shipment? Glad Herman is doing well :)

Hello everyone and thank you all for the help you have been giving me every time I have a question.

I ordered a few baby chicks from Meyer Hatchery mid April and they were shipped yesterday. In the morning they advised me that they had a problem with one of the breed I ordered and asked if I wanted to substitute with something else and pay the difference. I said no as I was really disappointed that they didn’t have the Appenzeller Spitzhauben which I was looking forward to the most. The CS rep suggested to place the order very early next year to ensure delivery to which I did remind her that this order was placed in April-5 months ago.

What annoyed me a bit is that I should have been given the option of substitution without having to pay extra.
I want to send them an email telling them how I feel. Is it petty and whining on my side or is this the norm for the chicken business?

I haven’t received the chicks yet and I ‘ll go to the Post Office shortly to make sure they’re not laying around there being ignored.
Definitely get yourself heard.
If you are still looking for a Spitzhauben, there are other places to order. I went through Rural King, and someone there in the chick department placed an order for me and I got 6.
I am sorry for your troubles. Good luck with your endeavors.

It was an Appenzeller Spitzhauben. I don’t think Ideal takes minimum shipment and I already have 12 coming in.

Things that make you go hmm..

I will figure something out. We don’t have a Rural King or TSC close by. The closest TSC is 90 miles away which is probably a good thing considering ....
