I did this wen and thurs lol moveing birds around so everyone has more space. I still feel so bad for the litte button Id put her in with the new born quail but she dosnt need the heat and IM sure she would get to warm. I wish I could ge ahold of some more button eggs her cries break my heart. On the upside I got a huge bright pink rubbermade tub and cut the lid so it is mostly 1/4 inch wire mesh and used bright pink with black tiger stirpes duct tape to keep the wire in place. That quail pair are styleing let me tel ya.

Is anybody else having horrible luck selling there poultry/Birds lately. I swear I am trying to sell them below what they are worth and I can't move them. I am to the point to where I am seriously downsizing my flock of birds again due to not being able to sell anything. This is just getting ridiculous. The only things I am keeping of coarse are my pair of peafowl and my free rangers which are the guineas, EE/OE/Marans & a trio of Muscovy ducks. Then I will have my Cuckoo Silkies and if I ever have any luck with the silkied serama I will have a quad of them. But all the calls have to go they are horrible layers and nobody buys them around here.

Also My chickens have been horrible this year on laying eggs. This is the worst year yet on my chickens laying eggs. With as many as I have there is no excuse. I am also tired of getting them almost all the way grown and going out the next day to just find it dead on the coop floor for no reason. Just getting sick of all the deaths and no sales. Costing me more to keep them than there worth especially when they aren't providing me breakfast. I guess some of them are gonna have to provide us a meal cause I am not gonna give them away for free. Sorry I am just stressed to the max right now.

Just had to buy school supplies for 3 of my kids and clothes and shoes Oh My God........ So expensive I can't believe it. I am already broke for the month.

I cleaned out the big coop today and painted all the walls. I couldn't believe how hot I was... it was literally dripping off me, even with the fan plugged in. Yuck! But now the girls have a nice fresh space and new litter. Thank goodness they are finally starting to lay again... it's been a rough summer! I even had to buy eggs the other day. It felt like I was cheating on them or something!

I am. I've written about it twice and then it just disappeared so no long story this time.

I fear that, too.

Our ducks were hiding nests from us and right now we have 21 baby Muscovies running around our yard. DH tried to sell some but ended up selling only one white baby. People are listing them at 1.00 each right now, and he won't. He says he can't when their feed is costing him much more. I'm not disagreeing.
Honestly, how is anyone recouping feed, bedding, etc, costs at 1.00 each? My normal people who buy from me only want Silkies right now. I can't even give away the OEGB bbr's eggs or chicks.

My patch came off my eye yesterday. Whoot, the tumor was shaved back this time very far. You now cannot see it at all unless I push back the corner of my eye to find it. Please keep fingers, toes, and eyeballs crossed for me. I am hoping this helps with the problems I have been having.

I have been moving birds around this week like many others, and repairing fences, and an older birdcage. If anyone is in my area of NC, and needs birds; PLEASE let me know. I incubate, hatch and raise, but have way too many right now. It is bitter-sweet when someone comes to take some home because you get attached, but They need space to have good health.

I have been turning some of my Roosters out at times to keep the peace. I even put one of the reds in with 21 (8 week olds) because he is good with young ones. He survived a coyote attack, and was being cared for in a brooder box, while chicks were hatching earlier this year. They were all in boxes near each other. and when I stared to put them out for sun and scratching... he went with them. This lasted till they were big enough to fair over night, and he was moved out to a run with them when he was able to walk again. He stayed with them for a long time because when I tried to put him back in his run; his father (Big Red) went after him and me. He did not want competition after so many were lost in the attacks. Now that he is strong the two get along again.

I have been putting birds in the gardens as well, but it is a lot of work to turn them to there, and then get them back to the runs at night. Not all of the young pullets & cockerels go back to their runs on their own yet like the hens & roosters (they all know about pr editors and want in). To keep the peace I have been letting Big Red and the last duck hen stay out all the time while it has been so hot, but will need to lock them up at night as well, before it starts to get cold again. I hate it that most of 2 runs have little to no natural vegetation left. These birds love to scratch, but the grasses, and such don't keep up right now. I moved the run with the youngest in it when I rearranged Friday to a new patch of growth.

Friday we even put hens that I had not planned to keep in the hen house. They were a little confused Saturday night when it got dark some of them were hiding huddled in a corner. I had to put them in, and they will adjust, but they were not picked to stay. They are pretty, but I have many reds. Do we have a "Birds addict Anonymous on here?" (BAA) I bet I am not the only bird addict on here...lol!

Here are 7 pictures that I would like to share. I love taking them, but they usually don't stand still for long. 1st Hen house, 2nd Scrapper (our survivour, & yes we can tell him appart from the others), Edward Teach (AKA Black Beard) & we have many of his offspring!, 4th is my hubby who constructs all of the runs and houses, he is adding fresh nesting mateirial to the hen house, 5th is the young birds in the garden with Scrapper. below left is a group enjoying some wild game feed that the boys were scattering for them. Last but not least is a bird that was hatched with help May 10-12. This little one has casts on its feet because it was malpotitioned, and had trouble getting out of the shell. We knew that it would not have a good quality of life the way the feet were pressed. Now I have to really look at the feet of all of that age group to figure out wich one it was. There is one right middle toe that is still longer than the one one the left foot. She will stay here for her lifetime!

Hey...what part of NC are you in?

I hear yah Reese....Most of the chicks I sold after I kept the ones I wanted...dirt cheap so I didnt have to feed them anymore...I culled 7 roosters last weekend and two yesterday...I did not process them as they ranged from 4 weeks to 3 months...cant afford to let them all grow out to judge them as I have way too many...i HAVE to get rid of about 20 more;( they will wind up being dirt cheap to someone or free;( I hate it!
