Quote: No auctions here and I have been posting free on CL with no takers. If I wait till the end of April, I can usually rehome them at one of the few chicken swaps we have around here. But the end of April is a long time to be feeding them. I'll keep trying CL until they are rehomed, I guess, or maybe the feed mill will let me post them. When I bring up the bird budget, George always adds "food, some money and all of the entertainment, it keeps you happy, so it's worth it." Smart man.

I think he appreciates that chickens are cheaper than diamonds. Last xmas, he bought me a rifle. Everyone told him it wasn't an acceptable gift for a lady. I agreed and promptly reminded them that I'm a mountain girl, not a lady, so the gift was perfect and very well thought out.

I have never been a jewelry person. I wear two things.... my wedding ring, and a necklace Patty made me. That's it. lol I also hate to go shopping, unless it is at a feed store or Tractor Supply. Even then I just want to get my stuff and get out. I do not mind shopping on ebay, but if you look at what I bid on....lol... it is mostly chicken stuff, and a few Littlest Pet shop's for Shelby. I love to shop with friends. I keep a list of what breeds everyone has, or crafts they make. Like Michelle and her soaps, Dmccann and her purses, Beth has a huge amount of breeds to choose from, and my Buff Orpington chicks will come from Pauletta. I like to keep the money "In the Family" per say, I guess.
I don't really do gun's, but that was a neat gift! Hubbie buys them alot.

My hubby keeps threatening to take my wedding ring and get a bigger diamond. I won't let him touch it because the one he picked out for me when we first got married means much more to me. He says it because he already knows what I think about that idea and of course, to get me riled up, as husbands like to do. We don't have the money to spend on something like that anyways (even if I wanted it). I keep telling him that the things that make me the happiest usually are not monetary, but they take extra time and thought. Like when the kids surprise me and clean the whole house or my hubby decides he is going to make supper. Those things make a person feel loved!

Isn't that the truth?! G makes decent money, so some people that don't know me, but know him, will ask "how much money does he spend on you?" Like, first, that's the rudest question I've heard asked (well, one of the top five probably). Second, they're always shocked when I say, "umm, hopefully not a lot, the biggest expense is probably the groceries". Like, really, not everyone wants to be swimming in money. I mean, sure, it'd be great, but money doesn't buy love. It does buy happiness, in the form of Folger's coffee though!!! I'm just as happy to sit at home with my kids and the birds (and G, when he isn't working, ugh) and not waste money. Heck, I'm teaching HIM how to save a little bit of money on groceries, lol. I always tell him, MOST things, store brand is just as good, if not better. There are only two things that I won't buy store brand of, sausage and when I really want it, that tuna helper in the Creamy Parm flavor. He doesn't like store brand butter, but seems alright with everything else. He never even realized that when I went shopping, I bought GV milk, instead of Schneider's. When we had our little brand name discussion, he said right away about milk and butter. I pointed in the fridge and said "well, you didn't seem to have a problem drinking it so far." He hadn't even realized that it was a different brand, lol. So, now he saves some money on that. With the move though, we've been trying to pinch pennies, because that's going to take up a lot of his savings for the downpayment (plus a grand just to make an offer on the house in the first place!!!!!!!!!), plus we have to buy or build bird housing, a lawn mower, etc. It's going to really stink, and some I don't think will get purchased until later. I'm not even sure if I can get my fruit trees, they're EXPENSIVE! Luckily, I try to trade/barter for some stuff and at least have some raspberry starts coming in the spring, so at least those will get started. Money. I think it's more stress than it's worth!

I hear you! I have a plain jane band. When we first got married he bought me a nice one, but it was one my mother picked out, more like her and less like me. Down the road he lost his job, and I had to sell it. I love the plain one, it is inscribed with a comment he makes to me all the time "Willie". It makes it worth more to me then the other one. (He sang a Willie Nelson song to me on our first date)
Our anniversary was Saturday. Instead of gifts, Our kids made us dinner and we all watched a movie together. He also finished my honey do list he has had for a year. Now that was awesome!

Some people don't understand TRUE happiness. Many are simply too commercialized. Even G gets that way. He's used to his ex's, who would be happy when he bought them crap. When we fight, he'll go buy junk. I had to sit him down and explain to him that, while I appreciate the stuff he buys, it's not what I want. I would MUCH rather have him home with me, on the couch, watching a movie, all cuddled up, than have him out at some stupid store buying crap that I don't NEED! I've lived a pretty simple life, and he is used to women who want all the frills and garbage of the commercial world. I'm happy with a pantry full of home canned goods that only cost $0.20 to produce, clothes from the thrift shop, etc, etc. When I do go shopping, I enjoy the thrill of SAVING money, not SPENDING money. Bling and expensive clothing and junk doesn't make me happy. Afterall, bling would get destroyed with my lifestyle and clothing gets stained (just had to soak my good coat in bleach for a day to get the bird dirt out of it after a day of poultry health checks) and junk breaks or wears out. Happiness with what you have doesn't wear out, doesn't break and doesn't get soiled.

I know people think money makes you happy but what about all the celebraties that go blow a million on a party if they want or other rich people that have everything and they still have suicides , depression, drug addiction and everything else. I would like to be able to buy a home I could have any type of animal I want and the resources to care for them but besides that my only asperations for money would be a juicer , sewing machine and the ability to buy a membership to a zoo and the scince musem in portland so I could take my son once a month . We just want to be a happy family and money has zip to do with that. Some of the most content people in the world are extreamly poor. Its an attitude and no physical thing can change your attitutde

Post a free CL add or take them to an auction, if you are have them. I can sell roosters for $1. Beats feeding them. And is they don't have some good breast meat on them, it is not worth processing.

I took 8 roosters to the auction today. I got $7.00 each for the old used up roos and $6.50 each for 4 month old nothing but bones roos. I couldn't figure it out. I figured $1.00 each and I would not have paid that for them. All in all I came away a pretty happy camper with the prices today. It is always a pretty sure bet that I don't buy birds at the auction so I came back with empty cages and money for feed. I got $2.75 each for quail, $5.00 each for mixed breed ducks, and sadly $9.75 each for 3 Sebastopol smooth splash ganders.

I tried and tried to sell the Sebs on Craigslist and this is just not goose country. Everyone that knows what they are wanted curly Sebs so I did not have space for three more ganders in my breeding pens and they had to go. The person that bought them was a reseller for another auction and he didn't know what they were. He kept telling his buddy they were Pilgrims and I didn't correct him.
