The other half will be hopefully pullets

but about half the eggs won't hatch either so the amount of chicks you keep till full grown is proubly 10-20 %.Mabey even less cause some might just keel over and die for no reason, which I have had a few roosters do.
Check out the thread called "whats wrong with their feathers",talk about high mortality rate on eggs and birds.

I have about 60% hatch rate on shipped eggs. Grow out most silkies. Other breeds- eat the roos. Of course we are on a 250 acre farm so room is not a problem...building coops is.

There is a guy nearby that comes to buy chicks every time I get 50. He is going to raise free range birds for organic eggs. But right now I have a population boom because I wasn't able to get ahold of the guy before I left on vacation. Still, I post signs at feed stores and they send me lots of people. I hand out business cards like crazy. I also post on Craigslist . My problem is I never want to sell the ones I hatch from shipped eggs.

Welcome, Candance. I know some of the lovely items you have. Beautiful Buff Orps & to die for soap.

Oh, she does have lovely soaps. I have bought them from her a couple times. Some for me and some for my step daughter. She inspired me to make my own. And how I found out I wasn't allergic to Goats Milk Soap.
