I had a duck egg explode in the incubator a few weeks ago.. the egg had only been in the incubator less than a week -- disappointing for sure.. and nasty to deal with.. had to wash the other eggs in there so keeping my fingers crossed that they hatch (hatch date Nov. 7) -- The only bright side were that these were swap eggs.. I didn't pay $$ (in a sense) for them.. but none the less upsetting.. so sorry to hear about your experience. I would contact the seller and ask what can be done.

Shelly

I think you got a old batch of eggs. The only time i got bad eggs from shipping was when they were treated very rough. I would also candle for porous in the eggs. Sometimes when you buy eggs, the only thing they care about is money and shipping anything out. I would contact the seller and try to work out a deal. I have come to expect swap eggs not being perfect, because they are swap eggs.
I had incubation problems during the hottest part of this year, my luck seems to be changing now that the weather is cooler. Best of luck to you!

Something must be in the air. For the first time, I appear to have lost the majority of my eggs too. Out of 13 eggs, all due yesterday, only 4 have hatched. A frizzle pipped and hatched on the wrong end, but it seems okay otherwise, one is pipped but no movement for over 12 hours.

There is a Showgirl I need to cull

it only has 2 functioning toes in front. The outside toes on each foot appear to be stunted and useless. It has a weak peep, so it might die on it's own. This will be my first chick cull....any advice? I'm really dreading this.

edited to add... I like the Parmesan cheese shaker idea! I'll check out my resale store for one. I hate refilling that little shaker, it makes a mess.

I just got my first egg from my banties! I just dont know who laid it. I have 2 D'uccle pullets, 5 OEGB pullets and 6 Dutch pullets and one modern gb pullet. They will be 5 months on the 22nd of this month.

I've been lucky enough to always catch the rotten egg before it explodes. They have always been with shipped eggs and usually from the same source.

Sorry Shelly about the duck egg. I know it was fresh. Besides Guinea eggs that I made it clear they would be up to 7 days old, I will not send an egg over 3-4 days old. If they are ilder, they go in my incubator. It was wet when I collected those eggs. I will send more Ia Blue if you don't get any from those to hatch.

I'm so embarrassed.

On the bright side, I have 1 Araucana out so far from Debi and a Lav/Split Black Orp out from Brandon.

OOHHH NO... I am sorry that I wasn't more clear.. the duck egg did not come from you.. I didn't want to post who it came from as they are active on the swaps and all.. but no..

disclaimer: The exploding duck egg DID NOT come from Mrheinz77

Now I would love some more Ia blues.. but I will be looking for them soon.

Shelly

Sigh of relief. How many Iowa Blues have you hatched so far? I just knew I sent duck eggs as a bonus so I assumed it was me. Did any of the white eggs from me hatch? I'm getting NN from those now.

off of so I am keeping my fingers crossed...only had two from the first batch to hatch.. shipping can be so hard on them. I will probably try to talk you out of some more eggs evenutally..

Could the bad hatches just be that this is a stressful time of year with molting and weather changing and that effects to eggs? I'm looking forward to another batch of IAs and the crossbred chick MrHeinz. I hope the ones left in the incubator make it. 10 more days seems like an eternity when I expected to see little chickies this weekend.
