While we're all waiting to hear from Natalie, I thought I'd post a pic of one of my favorite plants that's blooming tonight! It opens up little by little, and the whole plant trembles while it's opening! It's a Datura and it smells exquisite!!!

I'll post a pic tonight when it's opened all the way.

I can imagine all those seeds were bad. I'm thinking maybe my chickens have a habit I'm not aware of??

That looks exactly like what I pull up in my horse paddocks as weeds, can't seem to get rid of them. I also have what I was told are moon lilies. Looks simular to your pic but the flower is all white and blooms open at night for one night for each bloom but the plant blooms all summer.

I hope not Datura is most poisonous in seed and flower form!

Coop Scoop- Jimson weed is a type of Datura, except these have big flowers and the only thorny part is the seed capsule. This is a Moon Flower or Devil's Trumpet. Scientific name is Datura Stramonium. They are poisonous, but worth it, if you don't have curious kids! Mine are old enough to know it's bad, so they just enjoy the amazing fragrance and the novelty of it blooming at night. Datura Inoxia are my favorite. I think they have bigger flowers and a better fragrance!

Peggy- I planted some double and triple yellow and purple and none came up. I've heard they aren't as fragrant? This one is already wafting nicely, and it's not open all the way. Kind of a lemony honey scent. YUMMMMM!!!!!

The ones I get in the horse pens are large flowers that are white witha purple throat, plant can get to 6 ft tall and the seed cases are spiney but the plant stem is smooth. The white moon lilies have a different leaf shape and yes, those I planted in front of the house. The ones in the pens I have no idea where they came from and as I said.....can't seem to get rid of them but we keep them sprayed and pulled up but the horses don't bother them anyhow. I can give away all the seeds you want.

The ones you have in your horse pens I have in my cow lor. The cows don't bother them either. There is somebody on the way to town that has a bed full of them at the end of their driveway. I bet they don't need to replant that bed.

They are actually kind of pretty but are a pain when trying to bring the cows up to the barn in the Fall when they are covered in dew and you can't see the cows laying behind a clump of them in the dark.
