WHAT YA GOT SWAP Chat Thread

Nifty-Chicken has posted in several threads and at length why this change was necessary, that there were tradeoffs involved, that many long hours of discussion, research, etc. occurred before the decision was made -- and that one of the more unfortunate results is the loss of a true auction format. We will continue efforts to return an auction format to the forum. Meanwhile, we hope everyone will explore the new site and see the many new features now available.

There is a Crazy 24 hour auction. I've posted on that but too many don't know about it.

You have to be careful with your wording about having stuff for sale in your siggy. Your not supposed to say anything for sale there.

At first I thought I liked the new forum but I am liking it less and less. First I had to down load an app to use it on my Blackberry, then the auctions. I may be moving on. I had 2 auctions listed and when they were over I changed the title to closed. My buyer couldn't find my auction to pay. I guess marking it closed (but not clicking the closed box) closed it.

Beth, if you find the other places to help sell, please list them.

It was good while it lasted,
Jim

I was pretty shook up all day. Simply, if i can't feed my chickens I will have to sell them. All the work i put into building coops and runs and raising birds will be wasted. I have over 20 breeds of chickens, so 4-5 auctions is not going to work. I know it is not BYC's responsiblity to sell my eggs, and they made the decisions they felt was best for the site. Today i went on Ebay. I typed up a whole auction then lost it. I went on several other sites with no better results. As a last ditch effort I will put another ad on Craigslist, i have sold some hatching eggs on there. Tomorrow is the sale at Scotts Hill, taking the spare roosters to try and cut the feed bills. I use more than 50 lbs of feed every day. I can adapt to all the changes on BYC except the loss of the auctions. My job is chicken farmer, so unless the farm makes money, the critters don't eat. I am SO depressed

I'm sorry to hear of your troubles Hot2Pot! One thing I do with auctions is to type up everything in Word, then cut and paste it into the auction. That way it doesn't take forever to get things right, only to lose it all!!!
I am interested in eggs for a hatching in March. I have some Paypal money, so I could pay you for the eggs.

I am right there with you, my chickens help pay my $7000 a year feed bill. Extremely disappointed in the new byc. I don't think the new "so called features" other places was worth the sacrifice of the auctions. So far I don't see anything else really enticing in other areas or really that many differences (other than the unnecessary ads & clips that clutter up everywhere), well other than I feel they are trying to make byc a type of facebook/twitter combo and I could care less about that. Auctions were a big part of what made byc (besides the education) and now so many will have to look other places to post ads that brought in their income. So sad they didn't give auctions more thought verses new smileys or easier picture downloads....

Here is a list of places I know of to post if it helps at all:
Ebay
Craigslist
Bestfarmbuys.com
featherauction
bidbird
rarebreedauctions
your local free classifieds
chicktrader.com (could be very useful if we all start using it)

My 2 cents. I would never buy eggs from ebay. I would buy here because I feel I can trust BYC members. I think they are finding out just how important the auctions are and will do everything possible to remedy the situation.

Wanted to share a pic of two of my new Marans from Shelly. The tiny bird is Goober who is only 3 days younger than his hatch mate (hatched 12/31 and 1/3). He is growing, just slowly. He was stuck in the shell all covered in goo...thus the name. I had to completely hatch him. I thought he had died because he never made a peep until the 3rd day after pipping when I was going to toss the egg!

I tried to post an auction, and it said my limit is 5 ,i am plat member...........the rules for the auctions still reflect unlimited..........confused is this just with me?Help please
