Silkies from Just Hatchin' hatching this morning...completely unintentional VDay hatch, didn't realize the due date til after I set them.

Hope everyone has a sweet day, we are off to a Valentines party for our home school co-op kids.

Well, I am not a happy camper and I normally try to be. This week has been crazy with moving furniture and my chicks dying. They are in he bathroom condo I made for them with a heat lamp 3 waters and 2 feed containers. And every day 2-3 die. The only thing I can think of is the feed. So I dumped it to check it out. It did not smell bad or look bad but at the bottom I noticed clumps which tell me at some point it must have been wet. I just don't know for sure. But they got new newspaper, clean feed and water with electrolytes. I have been putting water on a teaspon of feed and hand feeding and watering the weak ones. But they normally don't make it. The room is an easy 85 degrees. I have probably lost 25 chicks in a week. 4 had bad feet and could not walk to eat or drink. So I had to put them down. I feel horrible but I am at a loss of what to do or think. I have never had this problem with a hatch. I have 2 bators still developing. And one bator in lockdown. Keeping my fingers crossed. Lots and lots of praying.

Taking the bag of feed back to Atwoods. But it will not replace all the eggs I have bought and lost. But I am going to show them anyway. This is the second bag in 1 year I got that was yucky, but the first one you could smell it was bad as soon as you opened it. I don't know. They were fat and happy when born but after about a week got pretty sick and droopy. Am I doing something wrong??????

202, I'm so sorry you've lost so many. How frustrating to lose birds and not know the cause. Hopefully it is the feed, that is easy to correct. Will keep you and your babies in my thoughts and hope for the best.

So Sorry 202.... just to be sure....could they have cocci. Are they puffy, slow moving around any bloody looking poop?

Oh, how terrible Pauletta!! I'm certain it was the feed. I'm so sorry, it would hurt me really bad as well if this were happening to me.
