But I think you have every right to be P***ED!!

I don't care how friendly you and your neighbor are she had NO right to just assume it was your dog and bring it to your property, I believe that makes her liable. Only birds!!

I would have to knock the crap out of her husband, how about "only goats" when they get killed. Birds cost ALOT of $$ and yes they become part of the family. I think you should start with the police dept and animal control and see what they say. I would want some sort of restitution, I have lots of $$$ invested my my birds. Do you have a farm policy with your homeowners insurance, maybe there is something that will help recover some costs??

I know I will sound stupid, but I will have to ask DH about the insurance. I'm just not sure.

Normally we shoot dogs who are dumped. But being that this was brought here by her (who lives a way down the road I might add) and she lives in the gated community by the lake. I penned this one up. I will call animal control and see what they say.
I am still so mad.

I know this does not belong here but I need a short rant.


I take shipping boxes out to the front porch this morning to await the mail lady. When I set down the last one I noticed a note taped to my door.
"Angel, found your dog chasing my goats. Returned him to you. Will be by tomorrow for egg order. Lynn"

I think, well that is odd.... Holley and Buck are inside.
I go back inside. Trying to figure out what the heck she is talking about, while typing on the forums...then it hits me.
I check all the smaller coops near the house then goto the cow barn, my Speckled sussex adults, my new BCM trio, and the new BLRW trio are dead or injured beyond saving. The dog is laying in the isle way wagging it's tail.
First of all, I am ******. He is not my dog! Secondly, should she not have taken the time to find out for sure before dropping him off?!? I am not the only person in the world who owns a GSD and mine is female and a black and tan. This male is a sable. I really just want to cry.
DH called her DH. He says they are just birds, and he is sure I'll hatch off more soon. Besides, she was doing me a favor.... ***?!? I cannot hatch off more soon unless I buy eggs to hatch them from, and I have alot of time and care into those that I had. I bought them as adults! 15 Chickens gone, b/c someone thought they were doing me a favor....
I want to call the police and make some kind of report, but not sure what I could actually do.

Am just really about ready to give up.... It seems like we get hit with something each year.

Animal Control had me call the PD.
I'm done with mad at the dog. I've moved on to mad at myself. I had electric wire up, why was it not on?

Detective is coming out. I am not allowed to bury any bodies until he takes pictures and does whatever they do. I honestly think he smirked while I was talking to him. He asked me three times..."chickens?". Maybe it is b/c of my tears, who knows. I cannot help but be proud of them and attached to them. It is just me and them here by ourselves all day, sue me.
I have to go close off the back pasture gate, he said he won't go in there if the cows come up. They will, they are nosey like that.

Okay so here is the finality.
An officer came out with another lady ( I am assumeing animal control person, but it was a SUV with a crate in the back). The Dog is gone. No pictures where taken, he did not even look at my birds. Hubbie says the insurance will not cover my losses. It is raining now pretty hard so DH says he will help me bury everyone when he gets home.
They offered me a meat grinder in trade for the cost of my birds. I declined. I also told them since I no longer have enough hens to cover my orders of eggs to personal people, and the little country store down the way, I'll have to cancel her order. I think I will go back to being a hermit...

IMO, that sounds like a bunch of crap!!! No pictures? Did they at least make a report? Did you get a picture of the dog before it left? Please take pictures of the carnage for your records. Are they going to track down the owner? I know the lady who brought the dog to your property is an acquaintance but she is the one who brought a dog to your property and just assumed it was your dog. Did she bother to ask before putting with your livestock??? NO she did not!! - That still makes her liable!!! I would be looking for restitution for my losses, especially since you were making income from them. Again I am soo sorry for your losses.

I am so sorry for your loss.TN laws are bad when it comes to stray dogs. It is hard to get anything done. Been there done that. I am sorry again I know how frustrating it can be



Does any onr have any rose bush sprouts or any other type of bush cuttings they would want to swap for eggs. I don't know much about plants so forgive me if that is wrong. I am looking to add some new bushes to the place. I might be interested in other plants let me know if interested. I really wanting some that will come back every year and not one year and done and wanting some that will not have to be in pots and moved in the house during winter. Out side of that I am open. Let me know if you are interested. Thanks.
