Luluann- have you done a test hatch? I recommend it because sometimes you need to work out kinks in your bator. You could post an ad on Craigslist for local hatching eggs and I'm sure you'd get responses.

As opposed to me -- I'm just dying to pay a lot for eggs

luluann, the best and cheapest way to test out your bator before getting "expensive" eggs might be to either ask around among folks near you who have chickens -- they may very well have fertile "mutt" eggs for free -- or Trader Joe's also carries fertile eating eggs for $3 a dozen or so which some folks have hatched with a lot of success. Or try your local Craigslist!
