My garage has had brooder birds all frickin winter. My car, which is garage kept, looks filthier than cars that are parked in peoples' driveways. Yep, they're that dusty and yucky. Why don't I just wash my darned car? Well, insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results, and well, that's exactly what I'd be doing... Clean it and it'd get dirty right away anyways. :D Come hither spring! I want a cleaned out garage (no random rabbit turds kicked out of cages, no bird dander all over my car, no squawky birds in the garage when I go for a smoke break!

For those of you that want to be enabled quail are very sweet (but flighty) and you can keep a set of 4-8 in the space of A rabbit cage. They can be in a large run just have to be sure they cannot get at chicken poo.

They go from egg to production in 8 weeks or less!

I love the quail. They are so easy and inexpensive to care for. They are my kids'. They hatch them and do all of the chores. The only problem is they are a bit flighty - we have had a few fly away!

What kind of food do you feed quail?
They like higher protein. I use pheasent feed, but turkey starter or anything over 23-24% works well. Game bird is good too if its the high and not low protein. In a pinch you can give them non medicated chick starter at 20, not ideal but sufficent, Then give them treats. They like oyster shell and bugs.

I had quail for several years and I fed them regular chick starter till they started to lay then switched to regular layer crumbles. They love to toss food out of their feeders. The ones I had wasted more feed than what they ate. Thats why I don't have them anymore. I made some quail feeders out of bleach jugs that helped them not waste so much feed. They could get their heads in but couldn't get their bodies in to scratch out the feed. But they still managed to waste some by tossing it out with their beaks.
