problem is I have 1 male duck who rules everything on my ding bat farm! We adore him-he already has 2 khaki cambell runner girls...I don't want to hatch out boy ducks because they are impossible to get rid of around here All though I've mastered processing chickens I cannot do a duck! YET! I'll do someone elses but not mine..lol

If anyone is interested I updated my quail feeder and waterer byc page with pictures and instructions for making nifty feeders out of two litter bottles. They work great for the baby quail and baby chicks. they can't rake the feed out as easily as the feeders you screw onto the bottom of a quart jar you buy at feedstore. Plus you can clean them or throw them away and start fresh when they get dirty.

Oh yeah and for those that have gotton quail eggs from me I would love to know your hatch ratios, any feedback is good.

Thanks Jenlyn... I will check out the Quail thread. I have cournix & buttons. I think they are cournix...got the eggs at auction, they are white with brown spot on their heads. I had some brown ones, just sold them at auction. The buttons are just 2 weeks old and super tiny, but I have successfully taught them to drink from a water bottle. Dumb things tried to drown in gator aid cap.

I they cournix are dumber, they can't figure out the water bottle.

Well, she's a mother to 11 kids and 100 grandkids. She's always been very loving and worries about everybody. She's not well and I just want her last years to be happy ones. The other family members she lived with just took advantage of her medicine and money. She's protected here and I make sure she gets her medication. What ever makes her happy that doesn't hurt her is what I want for her. If she wants to babysit the chicks then so be it.

It's really cute to watch her. We all know how chicks sleep. they look dead sometimes and she will tap on the brooder to make sure they're alive. But she has started peeking in the bators and not closing them back so I have to keep an eye on them now. I'm not gonna fuss at her for it. If she wants to look she can look. I'll just watch them closer. I figure she's old enough to know what she wants. Shoot, after 83 years she should know what she wants.
