WHAT YA GOT SWAP Chat Thread

I like the 24 hour rule also, but only if the number of swaps are increased, which I am also in favor of. Otherwise too many people run out of swaps and those claiming from the middle of the week on get stuck because so many are out of swaps. (I, too, would claim Bettacreek's offer, but am out of swaps

) I think 5 per week is a good number.

Of course, corancher, you could always do a CPL and claim an extra swap (by mistake, of course

) and then give everyone else another swap for the week. I like having this option so when things are slow, you can give people more swaps, but when lots of people are playing, limiting the swaps/week to a lower number allows more people to get in to play.
x3 5 per week sounds like a good number..

And now you have chocolate and crele orps too?? heavens I'm going to have to set a timer for how much time I spend on BYC to help with my self-control, lol

I think I like the 24 hour rule better, though I guess we wouldn't know how well it'd work unless it was actually implemented. I like the limits, because then one person doesn't take everything, and more importantly, the same thing isn't left up for offer all the time. In all honesty, I don't think it is *too* big of a deal if we have to wait a day or two. I'd be more disappointed if it seemed like the same stuff was up constantly and you never got a chance to pick something else. Even with the 3/wk limit, I try to be careful not to claim all three per week, because of halting the thread, like I did because I was being greedy about those eggs, lol.

I think this thread has staying power as it has been around for 17/18 months. The current swap limit works. Although the PP Egg Swap thread moves quickly and is quite fun now, I think its staying power will be determined come Spring when all those owed swaps become due. I hope everyone will be able to meet their obligations, but there is a real risk there. If you raise the swap limit, i would suggest no more than four swaps a week. I think it is better to be cautious and protect everyone's interest.
I do think PP/Egg Swap will do very well in the Spring when more people will have eggs to offer. There are a lot of eggs pending on the Spring so I hope most will follow through. From past experience on various swaps and this swap, I am certain there will be some who will never receive their eggs but I hope I am wrong.
I do think we should implement the rule of not sending your swap item until the next swap is excepted in case we need to roll back. It appears that most would like a few more swaps per week but not more than 7.

I think you only stalled the thread because all of us who would have claimed your things were out of swaps for the week. But had it still been there Sunday....

I agree with your take on having too many swaps since your 2 statements is why we had a limit in the first place. We know that some people can spend more time on BYC and we wanted to allow more people to feel they could have a chance at snagging a great offer.

Thanks for your input.

I will check back later. I have someone coming for a Lavender pair, Black Orpington hens, and some guineas in a few minutes.
I like the 24 hour rule too, however I'm wondering if instead of 24 hours for the whole week, why not 24 hours for a swap and if that person went over 24 hours they could not come back and take the same offer or needed to wait another 24 hours to claim anything more. I believe we have lost some that swap more on the other swaps and we may not have enough swappers except for a couple people who have what everyone wants. If you look at the amount of people that are looking at this swap or the paypal/hatching eggs swap at any given time; there is a big difference. It might be tough on some people who don't have the things everyone wants every time but still would like to participate or times of the year when people are busy and are not on the computer. Also implementing such a rule would take a lot more monitoring. Not sure if this all made sense, but it what was coming into my head.

Adding a swap or 2 may help.

That is a very good point. I also hope everyone has the ability to fulfill their swaps. However, some people are swapping 9 times a week on there. That is much different than allowing 5 swaps a week on here. Again, just my two cents. Very good point, though! I'm especially interested to see how that works out as I have over 100 eggs claimed on that swap and sure hope I get them. lol...

I agree. That's why after what happened with 'you-know-who' not being able to meet obligations on all those eggs being claimed, I have refrained from even considering claiming 'spring eggs'. I am sure the ones offering them have every intention on delivering, but we all know life can always throw you a curve. And in my case, usually does. I see LOADS of eggs I would love to claim, but I refuse to get in over my head, or take the risk of getting burned later on down the road. I have no eggs to offer right now, so it is strictly paypal for me. I can't see paying $15 or more for a claim on spring eggs that I may never see. What if something happened and I never received the eggs for whatever reason?? I could be in the hole for a couple hundred easy....

I have allready lost out on 1 set of eggs on the other swap, pretty sure I will not be getting them, this makes me cautious of claiming spring orders, I only claim them from those that I know will follow thru with something else if a problem comes up....as far as this one moving slowly, for me it has been a time restraint, I just do not have the time right now to offer many homemade things that people want, and with the holidays I try not to use to much paypal may need that money .
I will also be watching come spring, I believe they may have problems with delivering on all those eggs, hope not but we shall see.

On that note, I am not making any more claims until spring is actually here. lol...
