What's the best Coop Temp with a heat lamp, ( we have one on overnights ) and or an Infra Red Bulb ? ( ones in the male with a separate Programmable thermostat timer.)

Husband and I are Newbies to Pet Chickens. we got 6 Pullets ? I think that's what the Seller called them . four days ago. . . . 5 were outside already and 1 ( the one who died ) was weaned off the heat lamp : we have little idea what breed they are..

1 Black Turkin ( Turk ) 1 Black with white spots ( Pebbles ) 1 Black with feathers that seem to change colors as light hits them ( Lady ) 1 Black with brown and feathers on feet ( Hawk ) 1 with Blue Gray feathers ( Casper )

If I can not get this to work I've tried Several times I'll post Pic, I know that will help.

Hi, pullets are females that have not laid an egg yet. So your very fortunate. As, for the temperature I, would kind of need to know how old they are. A lot of folks start off with about 95 degrees the first week. I incubate eggs but, I also order some through hatcheries. When , I receive the hatchery chicks they are already 3 days old so , I keep this in mind. I also have to keep in mind the amount of chicks I ordered, because a lot of chicks will keep each other warm on their own for awhile. Every week following the first week you can reduce your temperature by 5 degrees. I'm not sure where you live at, so keep in mind the humidity. Just watch for them opening their beaks a lot, this is how they cool off. Just as a dog would pant. If you have a light on the chicks, they will flee from it ,if they are to hot. Or they will huddle under it tightly together if to cold. J.D. in Missouri.

I do not know how old they are, the avatar is all the chickens, all feathered out. . . . I'm guessing about 2 - 6 months old. if I can figure out how to add pics I will put each one on. we live in Western Washington. The Summer Nights usually only get into Low 50 ies

Welcome to BYC ! From West TN ! Looking at your avatar those birds should not need heat at night. I usually will put mine out at 4 weeks of age without heat as long as the overnights do not go below 40F. So far so good..
