What's a "good" weight?

I bought 3 CX birds earlier this spring- Just to try them and see if it's worth it for us to raise them ourselves. We butchered yesterday- so they were 7 weeks give or take a day. All three dressed out just over 5#. Is that a good size? I didn't know what to expect at that age really...

That sounds really good to me. My CX are 8 weeks old today and one of the bigger ones weighed 7lbs live weight. So dressing over 5lbs at only 7 weeks seems very good.

That is a good weight for only 8 weeks. Personally, I grow mine a little older because we prefer large roasting chickens. Good luck and enjoy the fine chicken dinners!

I will see how these ones taste, and maybe try going a little longer next time. I was worried about them being so big. One of them was having trouble standing and it scared me.

OMG... I made one last night and it was by far the best chicken I have ever had in my life. Now, I regret only getting the three. If I can get ahold of a plucker, I will raise a bunch next year or later this fall.
