What's a reasonable "rooster rate" ? 20% roosters from MyPetChicken

We ordered 15 hens from MPC this past spring also. There were no issues helath wise and are now 13 weeks old, but we did end up with 1 roo. A nice pretty Buff Orpington. He's going in with some dumplings this weekend.

I did not bother to contact MPC about the mistake. It wasn't worth the hassle to me. I had made sure the kids (6 & 9) understood that any roos would be supper and that as the hens age and stop laying eggs, they would be eaten also.

SEXING GUARANTEE:
For baby chicks, we also guarantee 90% sexing accuracy; for sexing errors greater than that guarantee, we will refund the difference between the female and male price. Sexing errors can be reported when birds reach 13 weeks of age and no later than 18 weeks after purchase date.

This is from the mypetchicken website. So basically for anything over the "normal" 10% error rate you get the price difference you paid for the female chick. If you paid .50 extra for a female chick you will get the .50 back.

I ordered from My Pet Chicken, and am pretty sure I got one rooster out of my 8. That doesn't seem to bad to me. Also, I have had a great experience with them. I would just give them a little more time to answer your email, I know they stay pretty busy.

v20% is double than what they gaurentee I once bought straight run and had 70 % females.
Next time order red sex links it is a 100% pullet gaurentee

And, do note that they offer to refund the difference between the price they charged you for one female and the price for a similar roo. They aren't going to refund what you paid for the chicken, even though you didn't order it, don't want it, and have no use for it.

Just so you aren't surprised....you still bought one roo for the price of a pullet and one for the price of a roo...
