What's Going on With This Pigeon?

So I was considering buying a pair of pigeons from someone, and they were sending me pictures of pairs they had already sold, and then I noticed this pigeon:

What's wrong with this guy? He's got something going on with his eyes and cere. If this is just mites I might consider still getting a pair from this seller but if it's more serious I'm going to pass.

What a shame. He's beautiful but, I would wonder if he is contagious. Doesn't look good at all. He must struggle to eat. I'm wondering why seller would include a photo of him.

BTW never knew pigeons could be so beautiful.

It looks like it could be avian pox. I'm not sure if any mites that are isolated like that. I could be wrong but either way I would steer clear of any that don't look 100%. I wouldn't want to risk bringing any nasties into the loft. Perhaps @sourland or @Hokum Coco could be more certain.

I dont knnow but there may be nothing wrong... if you scroll down to #14 on this link there is a photo of a similar beak and eye cere.

Great Post @biophiliac! There is some great information there. No preen gland probably explains why there is so much dander in the loft!

It does look weird but some pigeons develop some very large 'gnarly' ceres. It might be one of her breeder cocks?

LOL. No that is a real breed. You can see them on You Tube.

They are Budapest Pigeons.

Oh wow, I didn't realize they were meant to look that way. All the other pictures I find of the breed don't show them with the growths or the crusty eyes. They look like this:

If they're supposed to develop growths and eye crust then I don't think I really want them. Thank you!
