Whats one breed you own that you would not get again?

Also I'm not sure if I ever get buff orps again. They look really washed out and ratty by the time the end of summer comes around. When they have fresh new feathers they look lovely but oo much time in the sun bleaches them and seems like their feathers are prone to becoming kind of brittle.
My biggest bully is my buff Orpington.
Wow, see, different personalities, not necessarily breed related. My Buff Orps are sweet & gorgeous.

I think my buff Orpington is a bully because she's low on the pecking order. So she goes overboard if she thinks she can put another chicken lower than her. I agree that's not necessarily breed related.
Our other buff Orpington was sweet and got along with the other chickens. If I were to get orpingtons again I think I go with another color.

Id never own amerauacanas again all the ones I had had deformities from. Blind, scissorbeak and oscular mareks. Plus took the hen 40+ weeks to lay was a waste of feed.
Polish because I hate crested breeds that goes for crevecours aswell.
And game bird hate the way they look
Barred rocks neither lived past 2
Easter eggers those are always skittish
Bcm also very skittish
Brahmas takes to long to lay and poor layers
And no breed with a single comb they fall off and makes them look uglier
I think thats about sums it up lol

I think lineage is overlooked a lot when folks look at temperaments and variations within the same breed. Hatcheries, especially, are a crap shoot for temperament. They run dozens and dozens of birds of the same breed together with very little selection going into individual traits because their main concern is mass producing chicks, so temperament and personality can vary quite a bit. From breeders, at least proper breeders and not those claiming to be as such while essentially doing what hatcheries do on a smaller scale, birds tend to have more uniformity because each individual is scrutinized and flocks tend to be much smaller because only the best are put forward. At least, that's been my experience with getting birds from both hatcheries and breeders.

Anyway, long post short, I've never had a Buff Orpington because I personally find the color unappealing, but I've had both lovely and sketchy Orps of other varieties, mostly from hatcheries. I think the breed has its reputation of being sweet and friendly for a reason, many of them are just that... but from a hatchery, you just never know what you'll end up with.

I had the complete opposite experience with Buff Orpingtons. They were beautiful year-round, and my friendliest in the flock!

Mottled Java.

It's not the fact that she bites VIGOROUSLY to defend her nest when broody -- I don't really mind that and have figured out how to cope with her without bleeding (gently grasp the feathers at the back of her head -- where a rooster would grab on when mating -- and thus control her head while taking the eggs out from under her).

But she and her sisters that I've already sold just didn't seem to have much personality. They didn't stand out in any way -- not active like the Australorps, unshakeably calm like the Marans, or intrepid and mischievous like the California Whites.

There's nothing really wrong with them and their coloration is lovely, but they just didn't strike a spark for me.

Want my gal, lol. She's got too much personality 😅 Unfortunately most of that 'personality' is being a bully to anything smaller than her

No issues with that in my flock -- unless she's broody and defending her nest.

She's a big girl, though the FCM ladies are, I think, larger.

Not a bad bird, but nothing to make me want more like her.

I haven't had a bad bird, really.
