Whats the Best Goat Breed for Me?

I just saw a pic of some angoras, thought they were adorable!

But they look like they would need a lot of grooming, but I read that they aren't high maintenance. Is that true?

I am personally about to bring an Angora doeling home to join my Nigerian herd this coming weekend. Her name is Bailey!

I've read that they are more prone to exoparasites, such as lice, than other goats, because of their thicker coats. But a clean environment should reduce that risk, anyway. They need to be sheared twice a year, in spring when the weather is beginning to warm, and in fall before the weather gets too chilly. To keep their fiber in top shape, make sure their bedding stays very clean, so urine and feces doesn't stain them. Also, they have a higher demand for feed than some other gots, even when they aren't pregnant or lactating. It takes a lot of energy for them to produce luxurious mohair.

Also, Angoras must have horns to be shown, it is part of their breed standard. In fact, they should not be didbudded, even if you don't intend to show. Their horns are their build in air conditioning units. With their heavier coats, they can overheat without their horns.
