What's the best hatchery to get true welsummers?

There is no such thing as "true Welsummers" in a hatchery. If you want the real thing, get from a breeder.

If the price and sexing is what you want from the hatchery, Estes Hatchery would be the one I would recommend for HATCHERY Welsummers. Be prepared to be disappointed because not all Welsummers are created equal and I do know where Estes Hatchery stock came from but it has been what, two to three years since the breeder has passed on then the hatchery would have mix or don't do much culling of their Welsummers. It is a sad fact on some big breeders would sell out their best flock to end up at a hatchery.

I had hatchery Welsummers from Estes. Darn good dark terra cotta layers, but they were a bit noisy and kept digging up my strawberries. Good foragers & good mousers too! I sold them all 2 yrs ago, d/t we were getting more eggs than we needed at the time, and they weren't as 'cuddly' as my other chickens. Always got good comments when I'd post pics of them here. I kind of miss them, they were very pretty, so I bought the last Welsummer pullet they had at the feed store last week.

OH, and when they foraged, it was like watching Velociraptor in action!
