...No... Sadly she's not.

I was talking to a couple of people at work and they told me that they would just not come back.
They think she's going to cut my hours out of spite. *sigh*
I'm just going to tell her at the end of next week.. and I'll go from there.

Even if she is spiteful and cuts your hours... you need to do the RIGHT thing and give a 2 week notice...
If she is a jerk, thats on HER, but at least YOU did the right thing...

Wise words, Redhen!

I'd probably do the same, even if I did get hours cut back. I have a couple of jobs though, so I wouldn't be affected so much by the lack of pay.
It always sucks leaving a job you enjoy though.

A smart boss will know that there is nothing they can do about an employee giving notice to leave a job. That same boss will be nice about it.

It may happen that same employee will offer to work for that same nice boss at a later time that would be most appreciated.

I see no reason for an employee to leave in a huff nor an employer to get in a huff. That just bad vibes for nothing.

I can give an example of a bad way to leave a job. I work where food is made to keep the place clean they use high pressure hot water hoses. Someone (who was on final written warning a point at which you can be sacked for anything) thought it would be a good idea to take their car into the cooker block and clean the car while letting people video and photograph it with camera phones!!!!!!!!! Then the person claimed they where being victimised but they still got the sack.

Places where I've worked, when you give notice, they escort you out the gate immediately. (hope you have a couple weeks leave saved up). It works the other way too, when the employer gives you two-day notice, he means you're leaving "today".
Ahhh.......life on the road as a migrant nuclear worker. I do miss it.

I told my boss tonight about the move!
I was super nervous and it took me all night to convince myself to do it, but I told her to her face.
I didn't technically give my notice, but I told her about when we'd be leaving.

She did say that she was bummed because I'm one of her best employees, but said she'd give me extra hours so I can have a little bit more money for the move.
Aaaand, she told me that I can use her as a reference as well as I can have my job back immediately if I come back!

I don't know why I was so worried.

I see no reason to not give a two-week notice in this case, since it sounds like you have the time. It also can help protect you, even if you decide to give an immediate notice shorter than two weeks. I know one person who will only fax notices that are documented as being received to cover themselves for any resulting issues. After working some of the jobs I've worked, can't say I blame them. X) I do personally give at least two weeks notice.

But, I also value the ability to yes, quit in a huff. I still hear praise from coworkers about my husband, who stood up and openly called two managers out on their long-term, very poor behavior, and did give an immediate verbal, "this isn't working out, I quit". From the sound of it, he said what every worker was thinking. So yeah, just in case that happens to be a work situation you find yourself in the future, know that at least I support your right to say, "see ya".

But in this case, it sounds like you already worked it out, and it turned out very positively.

So glad to hear that!
