That pretty well sums up my question. My oldest pullets are 4 months & I was hoping to have one hatch out some chicks in the spring, instead of using my 'bator. I've never hatched chicks "naturally" before.

We got Silkie's last spring. Out of 3 pullets I think they've layed a combined dozen eggs, since we got them. Two tried to go broody - broke them of that by taking out of the nest at night. Broody at about 8 mths old.

with silkies the min. it gets warm, they go broody I've got one at it right now and she started in a wire floored pen,

I had a spring hatched pullet go broody in the fall

I had one go broody (a splash silkie) at a little over six months. She had just started laying eggs, and it was extremely cold at the time. I took all of her eggs away since it was so cold (in the 0's), but she was pretty determined and tried to sit for about three weeks!
