Only decided to eat them cuz got free and had never tried before. Free is nice but they'd have been better with meat!

A month ago I reported here about finally getting my 'dream' breed chicks, Appenzeller Spitzhaubens...and they are really living up to my expectations. They are smart, friendly, trusting....last week I saw a PBS program on heritage breeds and they talked about Spitzhaubens with a breeder who said she has never had an aggressive rooster. So I'm hoping this holds true for me....they are now 5 weeks old and too young to sex yet, but I think they are just remarkable and lovely birds!

This was our BCM rooster who was killed by coyotes. I find most roosters to be very beautiful but he really stood out to me and was friendly and gentle with the hens.
