What's the temperature where you are???

I'm in Garden Grove, California. It's Sept. 6, 2020, and today was 103F. Yesterday, it was 101F. These have been the hottest days of Summer. One of my Ameraucanas (Lucy) is moulting, while the other two aren't. They're not laying eggs much, and I suspect it's the high temperatures. They've got lots of shade & water. Food's always available, but they're not eating much, either. They do eat a lot during the winter months.

So most poultry might not eat as much in high heat?

:O

Mine weren't eating much yesterday also, but I'd wondered if I'd overfed them the last few days.

I hadn't thought about if it could be caused by heat?

Yes to all of the obove... Though my hens are pullets laying about four days a week each isnt too bad.

Shade and low stress is the best help .... Cold snacks like water melon or melons in general and Leavy greens.... Which we dont get much of here in San diego. In these temperatures watering during the day will cook your vegetable garden.

In Las Vegas the only place the grass would grow during the summer was under the lawn furniture or up through the above ground pool....
