Stock losses, property damage from Grampians National Park bushfire amid 'extreme' fire risk in Victoria​

Evacuees from communities in Victoria's Grampians are waiting to learn whether homes have been impacted by a bushfire which tore through 80,000 hectares in the region, as firefighters battle to contain it.

On Thursday night, the Country Fire Authority (CFA) state response controller Garry Cook said crews were facing a "really volatile situation" overnight.

While temperatures had dropped, a wind change was producing gusty conditions and pushing the fire in a north-easterly direction.

While several communities were still under emergency warnings, Mr Cook said weather conditions had provided some relief.

"Fortunately tonight, at the moment, the winds haven't gone to ground as strong as we might have thought they were going to from the westerly direction," he said.

"That's making it easier … fighting the fire on that eastern edge."

This year's race was marked by the deaths of two competitors — Roy Quaden and Nick Smith — in separate accidents on day one.

What's next?​

While the line honours victory goes to LawConnect for a second straight year, it may be days before the overall race winner is announced, after times are adjusted for handicap.

I know right?! So nice to be on the plus side of the freezing temps. I am really suffering this winter, every winter is worse and worse for me
